VIRAL HEPATITIS C,D, E AND G - CURRENT POSSIBILITIES RELATED TO DIAGNOSIS, THERAPY AND PREVENTION
Ljubiša Djokić

Abstract

Acute viral hepatitides are systemic infections mostly affecting the liver. They are induced by 6 clearly defined causes: hepatitis A virus (HAV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), hepatitis D virus (HDV), hepatitis E virus (HEV) and hepatitis G virus (HGV). However, all these primarily hepatogenic viruses cannot explain all the cases of the contagious jaundice: approximately 10% of all post-transfusion and about 4% of the sporadic forms of the hepatitides have currently been unexplained. Therefore, it may be expected in the future the new causes of the disease to be evidenced. Acute viral hepatitis may be transmitted in different ways. The possibility of prophylaxis and treatţnent is different in different types of hepatitides. Therefore it is of the utmost importance to differentiate acute viral hepatitis from other hepatopathies, which is currently possible owing to the serological screening tests, and increasingly frequently owing to the molecular biology methods. Current therapeutical possibilities in acute viral hepatitides are nor satisfactory, which indicates the significance of the numerous and confirmed preventive measures.
