Abstract

Hepatitis B and C infections represent very complex and important problem in patients on maintenance hemodialysis. Hepatitis B used to be a very common problem in dialysis units until 1989, when hepatitis C virus infection was discovered.
In our study 180 pts on regular hemodialysis treatment were examined in period from 1994 to 1997. Incidence of anti-HCV positive in 1994 was 61,2%. After the introduction of preventive measures for nosoconial way of infection spreading (separation of pts beds) there was a trend of reduction of HCV positive pts.
So in 1997 incidence of HCV positive pts was 49,72%. Highly significant correlation (p In conclusion, hepatitis C is very important problem in dialysis population, so the preventive mesasures should be performed in order to minimize the incidence of HCV infection.

Key words: Hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hemodialysis incidence, evolution.
