Branislav Tiodoroviæ, Branislav Petroviæ

Abstract

World Health organization (WHO) places great hopes in the vaccine to be tested the auspices of WHO during the next few years; the vaccine would render protection to the frightened mankind regarding this dangerous disease.

Reviewing the available and published information from 26 world centres for the investigation, development and testing of the AIDS vaccine, we may conclude that there are numerous different approaches to making this vaccine. In the USA there already is a registered vaccine (as well as in Mexico), yet not widely accepted. It is expected, based on the opinion of many scientists dealing with the problem, that the vaccine despite various difficulties will be available at the beginning of 21st centry making the epidemiological prognosis of AIDS more optimistic.

Establishing of the vaccination programme should not weaken the efforts regarding health education and prevention even if the short-or medium-term vaccines were invented, since the expected task of 21st century medicine is the elimination of this disease.

Key words: AIDS, vaccine, epidemiological prognosis.
