EFFECT OF THE RISK FACTORS UPON THE INSULIN-INDEPENDENT DIABETES

A retrospective analysis of the Counseling Office for Diabetes of the Health Center, Bela Palanka, bas been made in order to determine age and gender structure of the patients suffering from diabetes as well as the risk factors causing the disease. The series involves 134 patients for the period from 1995 to 1999. There were 42 men and 92 women. The greatest number of the sick is over 50 years of age. The risk factors are numerous (patients' old age, "sitting" professions, physical activity, obesity, inadequale nutrition, inheritance, pancreas' disease, eh roni c use of alcohol). The importance of primary prevention as well as of potential palients' education is stressed.
