NEPHROCALCINOSIS - ROENTGEN IMAGE
Rade B. BABIĆ
Institute for Radiology of the Clinic Center, Niš
Nephrocalcinosis is an exceptionally rare disease. It is diagnosed by a native urinary tract roentgenogram. The roentgen image is pathognomonic: in the medulla renis the microcalcifications or so-called "flaky granulation", or, more rarely, the macrocalcifications appear on a limited area or in a diffused way, while in the renal cortex the arc, intermittent or continuous linear calcifications in the external renal regions are parallel to the kidney contour as so-called "tramway lines"; the medulla appears as a transparent soft tissue medium.
