There are many causes of lung ventilation distrurbances including: bronchial obstruction (extraluminal, mural or intraluminal), lack of surfactant, neuromuscular disorders, myoelastic fibres contraction in terminal bronches which are under autonomous and immune control.
Respiratory tract obstruction are of great importance in otorhynolaryngology. Prompt diagnose is crutial for good recovery and avoidance of complications.
In this paper we analyzed patients treated for lower respiratory tract obstruction between the period of 1999 to 2003 at the Clinic for Otorhynolaringology. During this period 49 patients were treated with tracheobronchospcopy and foreign body removal.
As a result of better collaboration between pediatritians and specialist in otorhynolaryngology we found more frequent diagnosis of lower respiratory tract, foreign bodies and bronchoscopic extraction. Acta Medicae Medianae 2004; 43(2): 65-67.
