About the study program




Integrated academic studies (IAS) of dentistry for the academic title Doctor of Dentistry last for five years or ten semesters – 4630 classes – out of which 1740 classes of theory, 2580 classes of practice, and 310 classes of other teaching forms (professional practice and diploma paper). Active teaching takes place in the form of lectures, practical classes and other forms of teaching (seminars, colloquia, consultations, preexam practice) and research work in the preparation of the diploma paper.


Student engagement in the study program is realized through active teaching and is expressed in 300 ECTS credits. Each course in the study program can have a different number of ECTS credits, but the total of credits per academic year is 60. Per each course, the activities have been defined for the fulfillment of the aim and outcomes of the course, and a student earns the points defined in the course accomplishing his preexam obligations and upon successful completion of the final exam.


The curriculum (teaching plan) of the IAS of dentistry comprises 45 courses – compulsory (required) and elective courses with the diploma paper at the end of studies. There are 38 compulsory courses, 7 elective areas with 19 elective courses in total, plus the diploma paper as an elective course. A student has to choose one elective course from each of the elective areas of teaching/learning.


The teaching plan of IAS of Dentistry makes possible for the first year students to acquire some basic knowledge in general education courses (Medicine and Society, Medical Statistics and Informatics, Social Medicine with Epidemiology and Hygiene, Physical Education), as well as in medical preclinical courses: Molecular and Human Genetics, Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Biochemistry and Oral Biochemistry. In the second study year, in addition to basic medical sciences and preparation for clinical practice, the students will have a preclinical dental course – Dental Prosthetics – Preclinic. In the third year of studies clinical courses are started: Dermatovenerology, Neurology and Psychiatry with Medical Psychology, Pharmacology with Toxicology, Dental Diseases – Preclinic, Internal Medicine (pediatrics, infectious diseases, physical medicine and rehabilitation), Surgery (gynecology with obstetrics, ophthalmology), Anesthesia in Dentistry, Otorhinolaryngology, Radiology. In the fourth and fifth years, knowledge and skills in dental clinical courses are acquired. In the fourth year: Gnathology, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Dental Prosthetics – Clinic 1, Dental Diseases – Clinic 1, Preventive Dentistry. After the fourth year, students will have professional practice in four areas: Preventive Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Dental Diseases – Clinic 1 and Dental Prosthetics – Clinic 1. In the fifth year, the following courses are taught: Dental Diseases – Clinic 2, Dental Prosthetics – Clinic 2, Jaw Orthopedics, Periodontology, Pediatric Dentistry, Maxillofacial surgery, and Forensic Medicine.


In the semesters II, III, V, VII, IX and X, elective courses present the opportunity that student affirm their preferences and fields of interest.


Upon the successfull completion of all the exams planned in the study program, a student prepares and defends his diploma paper.
