...Abstract

The effects of the low-power laser on the epitelization of the mechanically damaged oral cavity mucous membrane by the removable plate denture were presented.
The study was carried out on a group of twenty voluntary patients. The control group consisted of fifteen patients who were subjected to the conservative treatment (oral cavity hygiene with antiseptic and mild disinfictant agents as well as adequate medicines was favoured).
The lasser therapy efficacy was estimated by the exfoliative cytology.
Under the low-power laser effects the basal layer cells proliferation was stimulated accompanied by the forming of the new epithelium covering the mechanically damaged surfaces which completes the epitelization process. The predominant superficial and very rare intermediate cells verified all this. (Acta Stom Naissi 1999;16:37-41)
