...Abstract

Diseases of the periodontium lead to the anatomic morphologic and functional disintegration of the periodontal tissues. With therapeutic procedures, surgical or non-surgical, the reconstruction of physiological profile of the underlying tooth tissue is achieved.

With non-surgical methods, mostly sanation of the inflamed tissues is obtained, and with periodontal surgery, which can be gingival, mucogingival and bone surgery, elimination of pockets with bone remodeling and creation of physiological architecture at more apical level is obtained, providing better conditions for dental plaque control.
